THE END

The finale, you have reached your finish line. The new fanfare is your own destiny. Now you relish in the concept that what you started has been completed.

  • You have quit smoking. Celebrate!
  • You are getting your degree and you completed your first semester. Celebrate!
  • You have lost 10lbs. Celebrate!
  • You relocated to a new area. Celebrate!

Whatever goal you have achieved, celebrate. Here’s the thing. At the end of one journey, there is the beginning of a new journey.

Now it is time to Maintain, Readjust and Proceed.

  • Maintain. You need to keep in good condition or continue to do what you have achieved. You maintain what you achieved.  
  • Reassess implies to assess your current state again, while paying attention to new or different factors. In this phase, it’s time to make new plans.
  • Proceed indicates to do something after you have done something else. It is time to move forward with new plans or interventions.

In the case of smoking cessation: Maintain. You may have quit smoking, but you need to avoid the pitfalls causes you to begin, again. Reassess. The cravings for smoking may have subsided, however, your appetite has increased. If you don’t want to gain unwanted pounds, you may need to reassess your current plan and develop a new plan of healthier eating and a steady exercise regime. Proceed with the new plan. This is the beginning of another goal, a new journey.

Remember, at the end of one journey, there is the beginning of a new journey. If you stop at one goal. You may become stagnated or find yourself, in a rut. Always keep moving forward, with new goals, races and journeys.
