RED LIGHT-STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN

Have you ever stayed at a red light for so long, you thought it was malfunctioning? Or, traveled down a long stretch of road and got caught by every red light? You go a little way and stop, go a little further and stop? Does it appear you are always idling, at a red light of life? Your life is at a stop or standstill. All while watching others soar by?

Traffic lights are devices used to regulate traffic flow for vehicles, pedestrians and other road uses. Rules of the Road instructs to observe each one, because there is a reason while you’re idling at red, taking precautions at yellow, moving forward with green.

Many people are angered being stopped, at the signal light of red. Their motives or ambitions are geared to go, go, go, without the checks and balances of precautions, delays or warnings. Determined to arrive at their destination, without reevaluation, pushing forward without rest; plowing on, possibly, putting themselves, or others at risk.

While others welcome or at least embrace the opportunity, at a red light, to briefly take their eyes, off the road for a purpose:

  • Tune in a radio station.
  • Send a quick text.
  • Look for something.
  • Check the GPS.
  • Talk to others in the car, face to face.
  • Readjust.

Red Light in traffic can be equated to the red light of life What do you do at a red light?

  • Stop. Terminate your motion, not forever, but for a short period of time. There is a reason why you are idling, at red. This is the opportunity to stop and look at your life. And, listen to what God and your heart is telling you.

Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge. Proverbs 19:27 King James Version (KJV)

  • Look. Look up at the light. Look around at your surroundings. Look forward to your destination. Look up to God and pray. Take note to where you are in life. Pray for direction to change your life, in the future. Let God know that you will follow His instructions.

Ye shall observe to do therefore as the Lord your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. Deuteronomy 5:32 King James Version (KJV)

  • Allow other vehicles to pass or turn. Allow pedestrians to cross. The red light of life is a time of learning. Read and study your Bible. Listen to wise people who have traveled down the road you are on.

A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels. Proverbs 1:5 King James Version (KJV)

  • Wait for your turn. It is not your turn. Learn to wait. Society has taught us to be inpatient, make decisions fast. It is difficult to see others receiving their blessings and your prayers appear to be unanswered. Patience is an emotion we must all learn to embrace. There is a time for everything. We must wait patiently.

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. Psalm 27:14 King James Version (KJV)

The next you are idling at a red light, take the opportunity to take your eyes off the road and put your eyes on God:

  • Tune into the strength of God.
  • Send a quick prayer.
  •  Have faith that something will happen.
  • Check out the Holy Spirit Who guides and directs.
  • Assist and help others around you.
  • Readjust your life for any obstacles or issues that comes your way.
