THE WHAT, WHO, AND WHY OF THE WORD

What are scriptures? Basically, the scriptures are the books of the Old or New Testament. They are the books of the Holy Bible. The Word of God.

Who wrote the scriptures? People who was inspired by God and spoken by the Holy Spirit. They were teachers, prophets, kings, etc., allowing the Holy Spirit to drive them, resulting in the sacred writings of the Word of God. They did not write them of their own accord, but of God.

 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. Corinthians 2:13 King James Version (KJV)

Now, the question is why were the scriptures written. In, 2 Timothy 3:16 (King James Version) it reads: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

This scripture will be broken down; with words defined; to bring a greater meaning and understanding.

  1. Scriptures are books of the Bible or the Word of God.
  2. Given. To be presented as a gift.
  3. Inspiration of God. Divinely influenced by our Almighty Father, God.
  4. Profitable– producing good or helpful results or effects.
  5. Doctrine- a set of ideas or beliefs that are taught or believed to be true.
  6. Reproof– criticism or blame.
  7. Correction- a change that makes something right, true or accurate.
  8. Instruction- a statement that describes how to do something; the action or process of teaching.
  9. Righteousness-morally good, caused by something that you believe is morally right or fair.

The scriptures, the Word of God was given to us as a gift and divinely influenced by God. They are a set principles that will yield good results. The scriptures will remind and teach us who we are in God and will provide guidance to change our actions and behaviors by offering instructions and directions in the ways of God.
